NoLight Terms of Use

NoLight

These terms apply to NoLight: Black Screen Camera for iOS, published by Sang Cao. Using the app means accepting them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

What the app is

NoLight is a camera for recording video and taking photos on an iPhone, built for long sessions in dark rooms — a lecture, a meeting, a rehearsal, a concert — where a bright screen would light up the room. It records only while it is open and in front of you.

It does not record in the background, and it does not record while your phone is locked. iOS does not permit either for any third-party app, and NoLight does not attempt to work around it — that limit is explained in Can an iPhone record video with the screen off?

Whenever NoLight is recording, an indicator is visible on screen, including while the screen is dark. No setting or gesture hides it. This is intentional and it is not configurable.

Your licence

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use NoLight on Apple devices you own or control. You may not copy, modify, translate, reverse-engineer or create derivative works from the app, or redistribute it.

The app, its name, its icon and its design remain the property of Sang Cao.

Using it lawfully

You are responsible for what you record and for how you use it. In particular:

  • Consent to being recorded is your responsibility. Recording laws differ by country and by state — some require only one participant’s consent, some require everyone’s. Venues, schools and workplaces set their own rules on top of that.
  • Do not use the app to harass, intimidate or surveil anyone.
  • Do not record where recording is prohibited.
  • Respect the copyright of what you record.

NoLight is not built for recording people without their knowledge, and this licence does not permit using it that way.

Purchases

NoLight Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Nothing renews and nothing is charged again.

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are tied to your Apple Account, so you can restore them on your devices using the Restore button on the purchase screen. Refunds are handled by Apple, under the App Store terms you accepted with them; we cannot issue them.

Features included in the free version at the time you bought are not removed afterwards. Prices may change for new buyers; that does not affect a purchase already made.

Availability and changes

The app may be updated, changed or withdrawn from sale. Features may be added or removed between versions, and release notes describe what changed. There is no guarantee that any particular version stays available.

No warranty

NoLight is provided “as is”. It is a camera app running on hardware and an operating system we do not control, and a recording can be lost to a flat battery, a full disk, a system interruption or a fault in the app itself.

Do not rely on it as the only record of something you cannot repeat. For anything that matters, record a second way. How to record a long video on iPhone without losing the file covers the failures worth planning around.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Sang Cao is not liable for lost recordings, lost data, lost profit, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.

Termination

This licence ends if you stop using the app or delete it, and it may be ended if you use the app unlawfully or in breach of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, where the developer is based, without affecting mandatory consumer protections in your own country.

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
